Coconut wax, soy wax, or paraffin: which wax should you choose for your candle?

When choosing a candle, we often think about the fragrance or the design of the container. But the wax is the heart of the candle. And not all waxes are created equal.

Paraffin: to be avoided

Paraffin is a petroleum derivative. It is the cheapest wax, and the most common in industrial candles. When it burns, it releases compounds that are potentially irritating to the respiratory tract. Its environmental impact is also the most significant.

Soy wax: a popular alternative

Soy wax is plant-based, biodegradable, and burns cleaner than paraffin. It is often recommended as a natural alternative. Its weak point: the majority of soy grown worldwide comes from intensive farming, sometimes linked to deforestation.

Coconut wax: our choice

At Coton Corail, we chose coconut wax. It is the cleanest and most sustainable natural wax on the market. It burns slowly, holds fragrances better, and its production has a lower carbon footprint than soy.

The result: a candle that lasts longer, diffuses its scent better, and is better for the air in your home.

In summary

If you are looking for a natural, high-performance candle, coconut wax is clearly the best choice. That is why we have adopted it for the entire Coton Corail range.
